2024 Winners

Presented by Craig Senyk Initiatives, the 9th Annual YYC Music Gala was held at the Grey Eagle Casino Event Centre on Sunday, September 29th. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s festivities was Lisette Xavier, host of CBC KIDS show, Bestest Day Ever With My Best Friend.

Honouring Calgary and area musicians and industry leaders in 28 categories, including our first presentation of the Indigenous Artist of the Year, the evening also included award presenters from the music community, and beyond, including Mayor Jyoti Gondek, Jon Cornish, Chancellor of the University of Calgary, John Kieser from Honens, Allison MacDonald from Carifest, YYC Music Award nominee Wendy Daniel from Ranchman’s, and previous Industry Person of the Year, Derek Manns of Stagehand.

Award highlights include many first time winners, along with The Royal Foundry earning their sixth YYCMA for Alternative Recording, Jessica McMann winning her second YYCMA for Classical Recording, Titus1 winning his fourth alongside Grillz for EDM Recording, Troy Kokol being recognized for his fourth YYCMA and as the inaugural Indigenous Artist of the Year, Miesha and The Spanks winning their fifth YYCMA for Single of the Year, and Calgary mainstay, MCC Studios winning four years in a row for Recording Studio of the Year, alt pop artist, Edwardson winning the Prophets of Music Emerging Artist Award, and opera singer, Pat Cuikani winning the coveted People’s Choice award.

The evening also included live performances from Liz Christensen, Kue Varo & The Only Hopes, Shane Ghostkeeper, and special collaborations by the Blues nominees John Rutherford, Erin Ross and Mark Dillon, and Rap nominees K-Riz & The Family, bRavenous, KTheChosen, Tea Fannie and Tinywiings. The celebration capped off with a performance by multiple nominee, sean beaver, for the official afterparty.

Music videos aired from category nominees, Ginger Beef, Hayley Isabel, The Royal Foundry, Troy Kokol and winner, K-Riz.
